THE LORD’S DAY

May 31, 2020

CALL TO WORSHIP (From 2 Corinthians 4)

We rejoice today that God has shone in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of his glory in the face of Jesus Christ.

We have this treasure in jars of clay, to show that the surpassing power belongs to God and not to us.

We know that he who raised the Lord Jesus will raise us also with Jesus and bring us into his presence.

So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. For this light and momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to things that are transient and seen, but to the things that are unseen and eternal.

HYMN OF PRAISE:

(Please sing along with our organist and a member of our choir.)

INVOCATION (Read aloud)

Most holy and exalted God – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit; we gather to worship and give you the praise that you so richly deserve. Come and make yourself known in our minds and hearts. Help us to behold you with eyes of faith, through your Word and by your Spirit. Strengthen us that we may know the unrivaled joy of seeing your glory in the face of Jesus, and so be transformed a bit more into his likeness. Fill us with exultant hope in the glory yet to be revealed. To the glory of your Name, we ask it. Amen.

ANTHEM: Be Still My Soul

THE WORD SPEAKS TO OUR LIVES   Pastor Paul Rettew

Peace and Hope for Dark Times: “Seeing the Big Picture”

Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God. (Romans 5:1,2)

HYMN OF PRAISE: (Based on Romans 5:1,2)

(Please sing along with our pianist and a member of our choir.)

TIME FOR PERSONAL PRAYER: (You might also pray with others)

Begin with seeing yourself before the glorious presence of God in his majesty

See your glorified Savior seated upon his throne of grace, welcoming you into his presence

Ask him to apply to your heart, his Word that you have just heard proclaimed

If you do not know yourself justified by faith, cry out to him to give you understanding

Ask him to help you to know and experience your peace with God, access into grace, and hope of glory

Confess your sins to him, turn from them, commit to seek him with all your heart

Pray for our world and nation

Pray for the needy in our congregation

Pray for our leaders

Ask him to renew our region through gospel truth and love; to build his church, to make us fruitful

Give thanks to him for every grace and blessing given this past week

Commit the coming week to him; ask him help you, seek his grace, trust in him

End by praising him for all that he is and all that he has done.

THE BLESSING:
