THE LORD’S DAY

May 17, 2020

CALL TO WORSHIP

Why are you cast down, O my soul,
and why are you in turmoil within me?
Hope in God; for I shall again praise him,
my salvation and my God.
(Ps.42:11)

Be strong, and let your heart take courage,
all you who wait for the Lord!
(Ps.31:24)

For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. (Jer.29:11)

So let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful. (Heb.10:23)

HYMN OF PRAISE  “It Is Well With My Soul”

PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION

Our Gracious Loving Father,
We rejoice in your righteousness and in all your works!
When it comes to our salvation we are all beggars, utterly and totally dependent upon your grace and mercy.  We cannot make the smallest contribution to our salvation.  This puts all of us in the same place on the ground bowing down before you.

As we hear the reading and proclamation of your Word, may we truly come to know you more and the joyful exchange of all our sins being passed to Christ and all Christ’s righteousness being passed to us.  Help us to trust in your Word alone and confess that we are saved by grace through faith in the finished work of Christ alone.

Lord Jesus, you are our righteousness, we are your sin. You took on yourself what was ours; yet set on us what was yours.
Glory be to God alone!
Amen.

Peace and Hope for Dark Times: “Exulting in Hope of the Glory of God” Part 2

Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God. (Romans 5:1,2)
