THE LORD’S DAY

June 21, 2020

CALL TO WORSHIP: Psalm 66:1-4 (Read aloud)

1Shout for joy to God, all the earth;
    sing the glory of his name;
give to him glorious praise!
Say to God, “How awesome are your deeds!
So great is your power that your enemies come cringing to you.
All the earth worships you
and sings praises to you;
they sing praises to your name.”

OPENING HYMN: I Sing the Mighty Power of God

PRAYER: Based on Psalm 66:8-29 (Read aloud)

Most glorious and awesome God; I join with all the earth to give you glorious praise and bless your name. May the sound of your praise be heard from me. For you have kept my soul among the living and have not let my feet slip. You have tested me, O God, and have tried me as silver is tried. You brought me into the net; you laid a crushing burden on my back; you let men ride over my head; I went through the fire and through the water. Yet you have brought me through these things and into a place of abundance.

Therefore, I come to worship you and offer the sacrifice of praise. For you have heard me and attended to the voice of my prayer. If I had cherished iniquity in my heart, you would not have listened. But truly you have listened. You have attended to the voice of my prayer. Blessed be your name, because you have not rejected my prayer or removed your steadfast love from me! And so, I worship you and sing praises to you; I sing praises to your name. Amen.

ANTHEM: “Be Our Comforter”

THE READING OF THE WORD: Romans 5:1-5 (Read aloud)

1Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God. 3Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.

THE WORD SPEAKS TO OUR LIVES: Rejoicing in Suffering

Part 3 “Endurance Produces Character”

SONG OF MEDITATION: “Rejoice in the Lord”

TIME OF PERSONAL PRAYER

Lord, I want to be approved by you; to be tried and true.

Whatever it takes, do your work in me.

Whatever it takes to purify my heart, do your work in me.

Whatever it takes to build my faith, do your work in me.

Whatever it takes to make me loving, do your work in me.

Whatever it takes to make me like Jesus, do your work in me.

If that means doing some time in the melting pot, some time in the furnace, do your work in me.

If that means fiery trials today and more tomorrow, do your work in me.

Lord, I want my life to be approved by you, so do your work in me.
