TOCCOA PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH

THE LORD’S DAY APRIL 5, 2020

MANY YEARS AGO, our precious Lord entered Jerusalem, riding on a donkey, intent upon offering himself up as the sacrifice for the sins of the world. TODAY, he is reigning in glory, having died and risen from the dead. He is intent at this very moment to enter into our homes, into our hearts, by the Spirit of holiness, and to unite us around his throne to worship our glorious God:  Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

Though we are separated from one another, we are united in the Spirit, and so let us worship God!

PRELUDE

“Hosanna, Loud Hosanna” by Doug Torrance

CALL TO WORSHIP (Read Aloud from Zechariah 9:9; Psalm 118:26-29)

Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout aloud, O daughter of Jerusalem!

Behold, your king is coming to you; righteous and having salvation is he,

humble and mounted on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey.

Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! We bless you from the house of the Lord.

The Lord is God, and he has made his light to shine upon us.

Bind the festal sacrifice with cords, up to the horns of the altar!

You are my God, and I will give thanks to you; you are my God; I will extol you.

Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; for his steadfast love endures forever!

HYMN OF PRAISE “Hosanna, Loud Hosanna”

PRAYER (Read Aloud, Based on Romans 8:18-25 and Psalm 16:9-11 )

Most holy and gracious God, our merciful Father and sovereign Lord;

You have created the heaven and earth and reign over all the nations of the earth. We praise and worship you this day. We acknowledge during this time of world-wide crisis, when the whole creation is groaning as in the pains of childbirth, that you hold it in your powerful hands, having foreordained from all eternity whatsoever shall come to pass. And we rejoice in the promise of your ultimate purpose for this world: to free it from its bondage to corruption and make it share in the glory of the children of God. In this hope we are saved.

Therefore, our hearts are glad, and our whole beings rejoice; our flesh also dwells secure. For you will not abandon our souls to Sheol, or let your holy ones see corruption. You make known to us the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore. Amen.
